NHL Hockey Betting - Martin Brodeur Returns Versus Senators

The New Jersey Devils are +110 underdogs to face the Ottawa Senators tonight according to Bodog's NHL Hockey odds but will enjoy the added benefit of having Hall of Fame goaltender Martin Brodeur back between the pipes for the event. Brodeur, who has missed games since Nov. 18 will attempt to return from an elbow injury that was originally sustained at the beginning of November.

With and without their No. 1 netminder this season the Devils have struggled, currently riding a three-game losing streak. On the season they've gone just 8-17-2, good enough for the second worst record in the entire league ahead of only the New York Islanders.

Will Brodeur's presence be enough to lift the club out of the hole? It remains to be seen. In 17 appearances this season before the injury Brodeur posted a record of 4-10-1 with pedestrian goalie figures of a .901 save percentage and 2.74 GAA both worse than career averages of .914 and 2.22.

After starting out the 2010-11 campaign the Devils have suffered one of the most disappointing regular seasons of any team in the league. Their controversial off-season signing of Ilya Kovalchuk was touted as a difference maker for a potential championship contender. Unfortunately the team was hit early by chemistry troubles and injuries. Star forward Zach Parise has been out since before Halloween with a knee injury.

According to the Bodog Sportsbook the club has 65/1 odds of winning the Stanley Cup. If they can somehow managed to bounce back and make a push for a playoff berth, something not completely out of the question, they could stand to yield one of the highest payouts of any potential contender.

Before they start setting their sights to far ahead though, the Devils will just be happy to get a win with their healthy goalie.
